The New Year began with beautiful sunshine but extremely cold conditions at Compassion for Greek Paws, bringing additional challenges for both the dogs and the people caring for them. 🥶🐾
With temperatures falling to around -8°C, one of the biggest concerns has been keeping the dogs warm and ensuring they always have access to fresh drinking water.
Extra hay has been added to the dogs' houses to provide additional insulation and help keep them comfortable during the freezing nights. At the same time, the shelter’s water tanks froze due to the severe cold, making the daily task of providing fresh water much more difficult.
Fortunately, a nearby natural spring continued flowing despite the freezing weather, allowing fresh water to be collected and transported to the shelter. While it required extra time and effort, ensuring every dog had clean drinking water remained a top priority.
Winter conditions can be challenging in northern Greece, but thanks to careful preparation, dedication, and ongoing support, the dogs continue to receive the care they need regardless of the weather.
With temperatures expected to rise slightly over the coming days, everyone is hoping for a return to more normal routines soon.
