This year, Compassion for Greek Paws launched a special fundraising initiative called Walking with Mandy, a campaign created to honour Mandy's memory on her birthday while raising funds to support the shelter dogs she cared so deeply about.
Thanks to the generosity of supporters, several of the dogs enjoyed sponsored walks outside the shelter, giving them valuable opportunities to explore new sights, smells, and experiences while helping raise funds for their ongoing care.
Each dog approached their adventure in their own unique way.
Here are some stories from the campaign.
Duke, sponsored by Lucy Saffari, was a little hesitant at first but soon relaxed and settled into a gentle forty-minute wander, taking in the world around him one sniff at a time.
Benji, sponsored by Ellie Smith, thoroughly enjoyed his outing in the sunshine. His nose barely stopped working as he investigated scents on the ground and in the air, pausing regularly to stand tall and watch the world go by.
Joy, also sponsored by Ellie Smith, embraced every moment of her walk. She enthusiastically investigated tracks, bushes, and new smells along the route. In fact, she enjoyed herself so much that convincing her to return to the shelter afterwards proved quite a challenge, requiring a little bribery with treats before she finally agreed.
Jamie, sponsored by Suzanne Tuck, began the morning feeling a little shy and uncertain. With patience, encouragement, and plenty of treats, he soon relaxed and enjoyed a peaceful walk filled with fresh air and gentle exploration.
For shelter dogs, experiences like these provide much more than exercise. They offer enrichment, confidence-building opportunities, mental stimulation, and valuable one-to-one attention. Every walk allows a dog to experience a little more of the world beyond their kennel while creating happy memories along the way.
Most importantly, the Walking with Mandy campaign serves as a meaningful way to celebrate Mandy's life and her love for animals, while helping continue the work she cared about so much.
