Life at the shelter is usually full of practical jobs, dogs needing care and the constant rhythm of everyday work.
Sometimes, though, it is the small things that bring a little extra colour and meaning to the day.
This year, Leanda decided to plant some flower seeds at the shelter in memory of her dear friend Amanda.
Amanda loved these particular flowers, which open in the morning and again in the evening, so planting them felt like a simple and personal way to remember her.
The First Flowers Have Appeared
After waiting for the seeds to grow, the first pink flowers have now started to bloom.
There are still purple flowers to come, along with the blue ones that were Amanda’s favourite.
Watching each new flower appear has turned this little patch of the shelter into something more than just a garden. It is a small living reminder of someone who was deeply cared about, bringing colour and happy memories into the everyday routine.
Benji Has His Own Opinion
Of course, nothing at a dog shelter remains purely decorative for long.
Benji has become rather obsessed with the flowers and makes a point of visiting them every day.
Unfortunately, his appreciation is not always quite as delicate as everyone else’s.
Let’s just say the flowers are receiving a little more “watering” than originally planned.
Small Things Matter
Shelter life can be incredibly busy, but creating spaces that feel welcoming and cared for matters too.
The flowers have brought a splash of colour to the shelter, but more importantly they carry a special memory with them.
As the pink flowers continue to bloom and we wait for the purple and Amanda’s favourite blue flowers to appear, they are a lovely reminder that memories can continue to grow in unexpected places.
And, apparently, they can also become one dog’s favourite daily stopping point. 🌸🐾
