One Year After Relocating - Our leap of faith

Compassion For Greek Paws

One year ago, on 1st October 2024, Compassion for Greek Paws took a huge leap of faith and relocated the shelter closer to home.

Looking back now, it is incredible to see how much has been achieved in such a short space of time through determination, hard work, recycled materials, and the continued support of kind-hearted people.

Today, every dog has its own individual pen alongside access to a larger secure run area for exercise and enrichment. Much of the shelter fencing and infrastructure has been carefully dismantled, transported, and reused from the old shelter site, ensuring valuable materials could continue helping the dogs.

During the summer months, work also began on building sturdy new dog houses after the plastic shelters repeatedly became damaged and destroyed. These new houses, built largely from recycled materials, have already proven successful during the heat of summer by staying cool and shaded. In winter, they will be filled with hay to help keep the dogs warm during Greece’s freezing temperatures.

A huge thank you goes to Αβρααμ Αβραμίδης, Leanda's husband, for building 13 of these shelters and for the countless hours of work involved in improving life for the dogs.

Important supplies including welding rods, screws, cement, and cutting materials were purchased thanks to a generous fundraiser organised by the late Johanne Knight and Domo Ekath in support of animals in Greece. Their kindness continues to make a lasting difference.

Additional progress over the past year has included:

  • Hay supplies stored for winter warmth
  • New trees purchased to provide additional shade around the pens
  • A dedicated storage room for medication, food, clothing, and supplies
  • A protected water tank area with improved shelter infrastructure
  • A practical sink and work station that helps make daily feeding and cleaning routines easier and more efficient

Every improvement, no matter how large or small, helps make shelter life safer and more comfortable for dogs who have often known nothing else.

Most importantly, none of this would have been possible without the continued support, donations, encouragement, and compassion shown by supporters throughout the year.

From everyone at Compassion for Greek Paws — thank you for helping turn a leap of faith into a safer, calmer, and more comfortable future for our dogs.
